PROPOSED EXTENSIONS. NEW ESTIMATES SUBMITTED, MOVE TO ABANDON THE POLL. At last night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council, the electrical engineer (Mr. R. H. Bartley) submitted estimates of the following worics: 'a) Tramway extension from Morley Strict to David Street; (b) railless system to Vogeltown, There were as under: (a) ®uck and construction, £15,588 4s lOd; overhead and construction, £3052 7s; estimated telephone charges, £200; contingencies, tools, etc., £ISOO Ss 2d; total, £30,341. This estimate (says the report) allows for track finished with asphalt eight feet wide and constructed on road already graded, also for draining track foundations. No amount has been allowed for purchase of land, road altera-" tions, first year's interest, etc., but the sum of £ISOO has been included by way of contingencies, tools, etc. _ (b) This has been taken from my previous estimate as far as construction m concerned, but the other item re cars, etc., adjusted accordingly: Overhead and construction, Railway Station to present 'bus terminus, Vogeltown, £3754 8s; two, ears, £0500; spares, £900; press for tyres, £250; extensions to sheds, £2000; estimated telephone charges, £350; contingencies £1000; total, £14,754 Ss. In addition to the above, charges for road work, first year's interest and sinking fund and purchase of land will bring the totals to approximately £25,000 for Westown and £17,200 for Vogeltown. The Council deferred its decision. C'r. Parkin, gave notice to move at the next meeting that the Council rescind the previous resolution authorising the taking of a poll on the extension of the tramways to Omata Road, Westown.
