EXPORT OF PRODUCE.
DEPARTURE OF THE OTARAMA. PORT ALMA DUE NEXT WEEK. The New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Otarama, which has been in New Plymouth for over a week loading meat and other produce for England, sailed for Waitara at four o'clock yesterday afternoon, and anchored in the roadstead there at 5.20 p.m. The cargo taken by the Otarama from New Plymouth comprised 31 ,'OOO freight carcases of meat, 301 bales of wool, 254 casks of tallow, and 900 cases of preserved meat (all from the Taranaki Fanners' Meat Com« pany), a#ul 477 boxes ofcbutter from the Moturoa freezing works. Speaking to a Daily News reporter last night, Mr. H. Gray (manager of the Taranaki Farmers' Meat Company) stated that the cargo lifted by the Otarama cleared the extra accumulation of meat which, owing to the congestion at the Smart Road works, has been stored at the Moturoa freezing works, only about four thousand freight carcases having been taken from Smart Road. The total quantity of meat now in store at Smart Road "is 160,000 freight carcases. "With the' exception of 600 quarters of beef, we now have none of the old season's meat—that is, the 1918-19 season—on hand, which means that we have very little risk of trouble which other companies have had to contend with," said Mr. Gray. The next steamer to load at NewPlymouth for the Home market will be the Port Alma, of the C. and D'. Line, and one of the largest vessels to conic to New Plymouth.' The Port Alma's tonnage is about 7000, and she is 450% feet in length. She was built in IflOl" and was formerly known as the Indrnlema. The Port Alma is scheduled to leave Sydney for New Plymouth direct on Saturday, being due here on the following Thursday, September 3. The Shaw, Savill liner Mamari, which is due at New Plymouth in October with direct imports from England, will also load produce here.
