HOME COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP. POSITION VERY OPEN. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Beceived August 29, 5,5 p.m. Loudon, August 27. Middlesex beat Kent by 153 runs. Lancashire Ijeat Essex by 188 runs. Sussex beat Yorkshire by 162 runs. Surrey beat North Hants by eight wickets. North Hants .made 430 in their second innings. The aggregate runs for the match was 1475 for 27 wickets—a record in county competitions. The championship order now Is: M'ddlesex 75.78; Lancashire, 73.60; Surrey, 71.81. To-day's play eliminated the chances of Kent and Yorkshir*, but the championship remains very open, and depends on the final round opening to-morrow, Lancashire Is expected to easily defeat Worcester. A sterling game is expected between Sur sey and Middlesex at Lords. A victory for Middlesex would he regarded as a fitting termination to Warner'.", career. Cable Assn. SENSATIONAL SCORING, London, August 26. With fine weather and good wickets, there was heavy scoring In the county cricket matches. Surrey, playing against North Hants, declared at 619 for Ave wickets (Peach 200 unfinished, Ducat 149, Fender 113 unfinished In 40 minutes, and Sandham 92). North Hants made 306. Hampshire, playing against Warwick, declared at 616 for seven wickets (Mead 102 unfinished, Brown 151, Barrett 148). Playing against Middlesex, Woolly made 96. Tender reached the century in 35 (minutes, beating Jessop's record of 40 minutes made In 1897, and the score included five sixes and sixteen fours. Fender gave only two chances. His driving was wonderful. Playing against Kent, in the second innings, Hendren scored 94 in 43 minutes, including one sixer and thirteen fotirp, by terrific hitting. t Nothing is settled as regards the amateur team for New Zealand, but efforts are being made to do so.
