THE TARANAKI CUP. I | WON BY COMMONER. l'iue weather prevailed for the second day of the New Plymouth Coursing Club's Taranakl Cup meeting, which was held at Glen Avon, Fltp.roy, on. Saturday, having been postponed from the previous day owing to the wet weather. There was a splendid attendance and the afternoon's sport proved thoroughly enjoyable, tho hares being fast and tho dogs keen, whilst so eo?nii!ete were riie arrangements made by the officials that everything passed off without a hitch. Tnere were- numerous close courses during the afternoon, only two kills being registered. The Taranakl Cup, which carried with it a cash prize of £3O apd a siWer cup valued tti £lO 10s, presented by Mr. I. Hannan, was won by the local dog Commoner, who defeated the Wanganui dog Seaplane, in thr final, In which both dogs raced neck and neck but a clever kill gave Commoner the prl?e The Supplementary Stakes for £8 and £3 3s Cup presented by the Mayor (Mr. J. Clarke), was won also by a local dog, Gay Lad, who defeated the Hamilton dog Bill's Gift The official's responsible • for the success of the gathering were Messrs. P. Doughty, slipper; C. Haskell, hare slipper; W. Haskell, slip steward; and G. llalam, call steward. Mr. J. Jenklns'on again occupied the judge'? stand, his decisions being unquestioned. Detailed results:— TABANAKI CUP. The prize money was paid over in the evening at a social gathering in the Workers' Hall, which was presided over by Mr. T. Richards (chairman of the committee).
