AUCKLAND MILK PRICE. By Telegrspta.—•Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Word was received by the local officer of the Board of Trade from Wellington this morning that the retail price of milk has been definitely fixed. It is to remain at 8d per quart from September 1 to April 30, while during the winter months (May I to August 31) it may be sold at 9d per quart. SUPERANNUATED PUBLIC SERVANTS. Napier, Last Night. A meeting of superannuated public servants to-day formed a branch of the Wellington Association, and resolved to send a representative to Wellington to join the deputation to' the Government. The representative was instructed to recommend a flat rate increase of at least 25 per cent to the pensions of all superannuantß during the continuance of high prices. EMPIRE RIFLE MEETING. Wellington, Last Night. A deputation representing the New Zealand Rifle Club's Association waited on the Minister of Defence, and asked for a government grant towards sending a New Zealand team to compete at the Empire rifle meeting to be held at Melbourne in November next. The Hon. Sir Heaton Rhode?, in reply, said he had already had the matter under consideration, and a sum of £450 had been provided for. He would be pleased to recommend Cabinet to vote the small additional amount asked for. A SERIOUS CHARGE. Dunedin, Last Night. At the Police Court to-day, Matthew Bradley, a city councillor, aged 62 years, was charged with carnally knowing a girl over the age of 15 and under 16. Chief Detective Bishop, who prosecuted, suggested that the Court, which was crowded, should be cleared, as "the details of the case were pretty bad." The Magistrate, Mr. Bartholomew, then ordered the Court to be cleared, and forbade publication of the details of the evidence. The accused, who reserved his defence, was committed for trial, bail being allowed,
