Surrey led In the first Innings by 74 and scored freely to-day, trying for- an outright win, which appeared unlikely. Two members of the team -for Australia, Wilson and Rhodes, then went on at 50 to keep the runs down. The result was a triumph for filow howling. Wilson's accurate lee breaks find Rhodes' faultless length, breaking both ways, kept the batting at a standstill for nearly an hour, in which time five wickets | fell for no runs . The performance of Wilson and Rhodes was probably the best slew bowling on a good wicket seen this season. | Wilson took five wickets for runs and Rhodes three for 28. Hitch scored 20 in four hits. The innings realised 110 Yorkshire, in the second innings, tailed off badly for 153. The veteran Hirst whs the top scorer in their first innings with 81, made in great style. The other leaders in the county champloushins won by large margins Th? order is: Middlesex, Lancashire, Kent, Surrey, Yorkshire. Hearnc, playing agafAs?. Warwick, made 215 not out in lire hours and 54 minutes. Hearne's present form with the bat and ball on all wi'jkets makes him the all-round equal of Wonlley. Warwick's highest tfc.cxrer was the Rev.
