After a spell of unsettled, though comparatively fine weather, as far as Stratford is concerned, rain set in yesterday afternoon and fell' heavily throughout the night, accompanied by hail and wind. This morning the storm continued, hail and rain falling intermittently, with occasional fine spells. This afternoon there seemed a prospect of conditions improving, but such was not the case, considerably more rain falling. A return basket ball match, between girls' teams representing St. Mary's School and the Stratford District High School, was played yesterday, resulting in a win for the former by 8 points to 3. Basket ball is rapidly increasing in favor among the girls of Stratford, and a. brilliant exposition of the game was given by St. Mary's teivm yesterday. Mr. Charles Schilsky, examiner for the Trinity College of Music, London, will be in Stratford on September 3 and 4.

Dr. Steven reports that there is no im--provement in the condition of the Rev. Father Maples. Mr. Edward Tweedle, the victim of the accident at Tariki on Monday, is reported to have improved slightly, and is no longer iu a critical condition.
