SERIOUS CHARGE MADE. By Ttlegraph— Press Assn —Copyrljht. Received August 2t5, 7.20 p.m. Sydney, August 26. With the return of Mr. Bryant, late director of soldiers' settlements, who was recalled from London, a Royal Commission has commenced an enquiry into the administration under Mr. Bryant. The evidence so far taken indicates alleged maladministration of funds under a certain bonus system, and in other 'directions. t One witness gave evidence that acting under Mr. Bryant's instructions, he supervised repairs to the residence of Mr. Ash'ford, then Minister of Lands, of which department 'the soldiers' settlements is a branch.
