STREET ACCIDENT. , August 24. Some excitement was caused in Broadway shortly before mid-day today, when a collision occurred between a gig, occupied by Mrs. Mills and Miss E. Aylward, of Cross Road, Midhirst, and a motor car belonging to Mr. S. B. Hunter, which was standing outside his surgery in Broadway. Mrs. Mills and Miss Aylward were driving into Stratford, and sDon after they passed the intersection of Leyton Street and Broadway, the blinkers fell off the horse's head. The horse, which had only recently been broken into harness, took fright and bolted, the ladies being powerless' to hold it in. They cried out for help as the animal dashed along Broadway, and Miss Baker made a plucky attempt to stop the animal, but was unsuccessful. The horso dashed into the motor car, the right wheel of the gig passing over the axle, between the wheel and the radiator. The ladies were both thrown heßvily to the ground, Miss Aylward being rendered unconscious. The horse then turned round, and the wheel of the gig passed over the bodies of both ladies, fortunately without seriously injuring them. The horse then bolted'back along Broadway North, dashed into a building jin. front of Henderson and Moore's workshop, where it broke free from the harness, and subsequently it was caught and quietened a few yards further along the road. A number of spectators of \he occurrence immediately gave assistance to the ladies, who were taken into Mr. T. Smith's tea-rooms. Dr. Steven was summoned to give medical attention, but he found that beyond a 'number of bruises and abrasions about the head and body, both ladies had escaped injury. This 'is the second collision in which Mrs. Mills and Miss Aylward have been injured, the former occasion being a collision with a motor car in Broadway South in the latter part of last year.
