August. 24—Flora, s.s., at 5.40 p.m., 1283 ions, McLellan, for Lyttelton. EXPECTED ARRIVALS. Mapourika, from Lyttelton, to-day. Rimu, from Onehunga, Friday. West Camargo, from 'Frisco, end September. Mamaii, from United Kingdom, October. BIMU LATE AGAIN. The Rimu arrived at 7.45 yesterday morning and missed both trains. She brought 130 tons of general cargo, and sailed on her return trip to Onehunga at 4 o'clock in the afternoon. MAPOURIKA TO-DAY. The Mapourika sailed from Lyttelton at 8.16 p.m. on Monday, and is bringing 440 tons of general cargo direct to this port. She 1b due to-day. FLORA SAILS. The Flora, which arrived on Monday from Onehunga and anchored till the Ngakuta's berthage was available, berthed yesterday morning at 6 o'clock. She discharged her 170 tons of general cargo and sailed at 5.40 p.m. yesterday for Lyttelton. GLAUCUS FOR WESTPORT. The Glaucus is expected to complete discharging her cargo of phosphate and sail for Westport this afternoon, RAKANOA LEAVES SUVA. The Rnkanoa left Suva for Auckland at 1 pm on Friday with a full cargo of raw sugar. She is duo at Auckland on August 26. NIAGARA AT AUCKLAND. The Niagara arrived at Auckland from Sydney at 7.20 o'clock yesterday morning. Her passengers Include 37 Chinese. She is scheduled to sail for Vancouver on August 25. MATATUA'S MOVEMENTS. The Shaw, Sarill and Albion liner M'atatua is to leave Wellington on Saturday for Lyttelton and Dunedin to complete discharge. She will subsequently load frozen meat and general cargo in New Zealand for New York. Her loading port 3 will be Port Chalmers, Bluff, Timaru, and Wellington.
KENT LEFT LIVERPOOL The New Zealand and African Company have been advised by cable that the liner Kent left Liverpool last Wednesday for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttclton, and Dunedln. The vessel is due at Auckland about October Ist and at Wellington about October Bth. THE PALOONA. The Union Company advise that the Paloona is to leave Dunedin next Saturday for Lyttelton and Wellington. Tho vessel is due at Wellington next Tuesday and ia to sail on the following day for Melbourne, taking passengers and cargo. ZEALANDIC FROM LIVERPOOL. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advise that tho liner Zealnndlc is to leave Liverpool early in October with general cargo for Melbourne, Sydney. Newcastle, Auckland and Wellington. The vessel will come out via Capetown. MAHANA FROM NEWCASTLE. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company received advice that the Mahana i 3 to leave Newcastle on Frldßy for Wellington, where she is due on September Ist. The vessel Is to load at Napier and Wellington for London. MOERAKI FROM SYDNEY. An ideal parage from Sydney was experienced by the Moeraki, which arrived at Wellington on Tuesday evening. The Moeraki left Sydney at 3.15 p.m. on Thursday and had smooth seas, light winds, and clear Bkties throughout the passage. Amongst the vessel's cargo are transhipments ex Changsha, Orontes, Nlkka Maru, St. Albans, Mataram, Madras Maru, Suva, and Hwah Ping. WESTRALIA FROM MELBOURNIE The Huddart-Parker Company advise that the Westralia was to leavo Melbourne yesterday direct for Wellington, I>ringlng passengers and The- vessel Is due at Wellington next Sunday and is timed to sail from Wellington next Tuesday for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, and Melbourne. SAILED. EytteUori, August 23.—Mapourlka, at 8.15 a.m., for New Plymouth; Keishln Maru, at 10.10 p.m., for Newcastle. WHITE STAR COMMODORE QUITS. New York, June 28. CapUtn William Finch, veteran senior commander of the White Star Line fleet, who haß shipped on everything from a homemade windjammer back home on the pond to the most modern passenger ships during his forty-sii years of sea service, leaves here to-morrow on his ship, the Baltic, for the laßt time as her commander. After having sailed the seven seas, he is going to retire and become a landlubber. Captain Finch was decorated with the Order of the British Empire by King George for his' efficient war service in piloting the Baltic safely through the submarine zone on many trips. He was In command of the Arabic when she was torpedoed off tho Irish Coast by a German submarine and sank in eight minutes. Captain Finch stayed with the ship until she sank. Then he swam about for forty mlnufes before climbing aboard a life raft. In this forty minutes lie helped a woman and her baby, nnothor passenger ami two of his ship's firemen to safety aboard rafts. I The British Governaient, In recognition ofj this heroism, presented him with a piece of silver plate, and the Humane Society of] Great Britain honored him. i Captain Finch has also a long record of gallantry In (he South Seas and the Pacific Ocean, for which he ha 3 repeatedly received official recognition.
