A BRAZEN THEFT.
theatrical takings stolen. -By Telegraph.—l'toss Association. Wellington, August 23. -All official of the company playing at the Opera House placed a "bag containing £240, the night's takings, on the Piano on the stage on Saturday. While he was conversing with members of the company, having turned his back for a moment, it disappeared. ' . Yesterday a constable noticed two men diinking whisky in a street and money changing hands. Suspecting sly grogselling, he arrested them, and, when searched, £2OO was found on Henry Silk, stage mechanic at the Opera House, and £8 on the other. The police were already looking for Silk, who will be charged, with theft.
