An anonymous donation of £4 has been made to funds of the Hospital Board. At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Messrs. Masters and Sole, J.'sP., the remanded charge against Albin Carson of assault with intent to rob was called, and the accused had been admitted to bail at New Plymouth on Monday and had not since been heard of. He could not give any explanation of the absence of the accused. Sergt. Dale asked that the question of estreating the bail be adjourned, and that the Court, issue a warrant to apprehend the accused. A warrant was issued accordingly. Later in the day Alexander Campbell Murdoch was charged before Messrs. J. W. MSMillan and C. D. Sole, J.'sP., with stealing a doormat valued at 6/6, the property of the Taranaki Hardware Co., and pleaded guilty. Sergt. Dale stated that the accused and two or three companions were under the influence of liquor. Accused walked across to the doorway of the Hardware Co., picked up the mat, and carried it away under his arm. The action appeared to be the i result of a bet. The Bench inflicted a fine of £l, and ordered the mat to be returned to the owner.
