. SUGAH WORKS IDLE. Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, August 20. The sugar works at Chelsea are still idle owing to the coal shipment at the wharf not being discharged on account of continuous rain. VENDOR WATEBS MILK. Dannevirke, August 20. Three Dannevirke milk vendor* appeared before the Magistrate charged with offering for sale milk containing a greater percentage of water than allowed by law. In two of the prosecutions it was shown that water got into tlie milk through 110 fault of the vendors, and fine 9of &5 and costs were inflicted. In the case of F. Studer, the defendant pleaded that he had been forced into the farm he occupied against his will, and could n'ot make it pay without indulging in watering. He was fined £23 for adultering the milk, and £5 for Belling it.
WOOL AND MEAT. Wellington, August 20. The producers' committee set up in May, when meat export matters formed the principal subject for discussion, had a further meeting and went fully into matters connected > with the shipping of frozen meat and all other produce. Various points arising from the wool conference held in the morning will be dealt with at a further meeting to be called about two weeks Jicnce. when further information from the producers' standpoint will be available. The marked improvement in the outlook for frozen meat export was commented on, and, while the necessity for careful management in connection with wool was fully realised, a hopeful feeling was expressed - .* a> .
