Mr. James Scanlon, of New Plymouth, loaves by to-night's boat for Auckland, en routu to Fiji on a business and pleasure trip extending over six weeks. -Mr. Seanlori will be accompanied by Mrs. Seanlon and their two sons.

Mr. W. J. Walker. 8.A., formerly of the Southbridge District High School, lias been appointed to. the ship of the Lyttelton District High School, in succession to Mr. R. B. Clarke, who is now headmaster'of the Addington School. Mr. Norman F. Little, LL.B., was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, by Mr Justice Salmond at yesterday's flitting of the Supreme Court. Mr H. R. Billing appeared in support of the application. At the meeting of the executive of the North Taranaki Head Centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society on Wedncsday night, it was decided to recognise the work of Miss Dinah Brown, who was the first girl in New Plymouth to bring forward a team for competitions, by presenting her with an honorary instructor's medallion.

A happy re-union of veterans took placa at May and Arrowsmith'a tea rooms. New Plymouth, yesterday afternoon, the occasion being a farewell and presentation to Bugler Walker, who is shortly leaving for the Chatham Islands on account of failing health. About 25 veterans, some of them accompanied by their wives, were present. Mr. Adlam, president of the Veterans' Association, occupied the chair. After light refreshments the loyal toast was honored, and Mr. Adlttm.'in an appropriate speech, in which lie referred to the regret of thfl veterans at losing Bugler Walker from their midst, presented their guest with a cheque for £l4 10s as a email token of the esteem in which he wis held. Speeches complimentary to Bugler Walker were also made by Messrs. John Andrews, T. Williams, and Gordon, Bugler Walker suitably replying. The rest of the afternoon was spent in song story, many reminiscences of the battles of bygone days being exchanged by the veterans. During the afternoon, Messrs. Adlam and J. Crone contributed songs, and Mr. Greenaway gave a recitation.
