RAILWAY FREIGHTS.
NEW TARIFF READY TO-DAY, INCREASE OF 12J PER CENT. (By Wire.—Parliamentary Reporter,) Wellington, Last Night. The railway tariff on the new schedule I will be announced to-morrow by a special i issue of the Gazette. I It has been announced already that in .the revision of the tariff, the main purpose of which is to collect more revenue from the us£rs of the railways, there will also be a correction of certain anomalies existing in the present tariff, j There are goods at present carried by the railways at rates which are not payable. The low rates were adopted at the time they were established for reasons which no longer hold. These rates will be raised to conform with thb general schedule rates.
On the other hand, it ia admitted that some goods already pay quite high rates, and it is understood that the increases on these may not be so heavy as on the general body of freight carried. The percentage rate of increase will, it is be in the neighborhood of 12% per cent., certainly between 10 and 15 per cent.
