MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE.
.MAOfil FOUXD NOT GUILTY. By Tolcuraph—Press Association. Auckland, last Night. A sequel to the tragedy at Mokaii, in the YVhangarei district-, in which Piripiri, otherwise Douglas Phillips, met liis death as a result i>i' gnnphot wounds in thp head, was a charge of manslaughter heard to-day in the Supreme Court against Wiremu Pita. The accused was originally charged with murder, but this was thrown out by the Grand Jury. The deceased met his death on May SO, after drinkitig with the accused and others in his own house. Evidence was given on the lines of that given in the lower .Court. No evidence was called for the defence. - After a retirement of rather more than half an hour the jury returned a verdict of not guilty, and accused was discharged.
