Received August 17, S T>s p.m. London, August 17 Apart from the disappointment at Spooler's withdrawal, the position embarrasses the selectors in view of the scarcity of suitable captains. It is understood that Douglas, while glad to serve under Spooner, considered he had a prior claim over all other probables as acting-captain. This will probably mean that Douglas will withdraw if Fender Is appointed Fry's n::cne is again mentioned, but it is now suggested that Warner may be induced to go. It is pointed out that Douglas is willing to serve under Warner. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. MEMORIAL TO TRUMPER. , Sydney, August 17. The Cricket Association discussed the poor response to the appeal for the Trumper memorial, £IBO having been subscribed since January. Mr. McElphone, chairman, suggested that the public should consider the widow and children rather than the memorial. —Aus.-N Z. Cable Assn.
