ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOLS.
REPORT FOR JULY, At the monthly meeting of the Taranaki Education Board held yesterday the following report was received from the truant officer (Mr. S. Pascoe) for of July:—l have sent out fi.l irregular attendance notices to the parents of children attending primary schools. During the month of July I have visited'the following schools: Pihama, Oeo, Auroa. Awatuna, Mahaka, Rowan, Kaponga, Manaia, Norfolk, Kaimiro, Lincoln, Waitui, Kaimata, Durham, Dudley, Tariki, Gpimake and Oinata. Except for sickness, the attendance at these schools is satisfactory. Opunake lias had a very bad time with severe colds and epidemics, an average of fully 25 per cent of children being absent (hiring this year. No doubt the draughttiioss of the hall where the school is held in some measure accounts for the colds. Irregular attendance notices .have been received from 100 schools.
I have sent out thirty notices to parents for their boys' irregular attendance. The general attendance of the pupils is not good and at Stratford the conduct of some of the pupils is bad. Several eases are being dealt with through the court.
