FATALITY WEAR ELTHAM.

• MAN UPSET BY A CYCLIST. An accident occurred on Burke's Hill on Saturday evening, resulting in the death of a man named Peter Legg, employed on the public works at Te Roti (says the Eltham Ar^us). Ernest J. Fever, residing l on the Hunter Road, was riding into Eltham on a bicycle at about (j..'!o p.m., and as he approached the foot of Burke's Hill lift noticed Legg and another man walking towards him. Ho was proceeding to pass when one of the men (Legg) appeared fo step straight towards the cyclist. The front wheel struck the man's legs from under him, and he fell on to the wheel. The cyclist was thrown over the handlebars, and the machine apparently threw Legg ba*kvjjards, his head striking heavily on the asphalt. Fever fortunately escaped injury, but examination showed that Leap had, succumbed to his injuries, having sustained a severe fracture of the skull.

Enquiries elicited the information that the deceased was a native of North Shields, Northumberland, England, and had only boon in New Zealand about three years. ' He was a. member of the Wellington Seamen's Union, and was 45 years of age.
