TROUBLE IN BAGDAD.
REPRESSIVE MEASURES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Delhi, August -3. In view of the growth of secret political activity in Bagdad, a proclamation has been issued by Brigadier-General Sanders, officer commanding the Bagdad defences, to the people of the city warning those agitators who have been summoning meetings regularly on a religious pretext, but really to inflame the public against the Government and stir up disorder, that all meetings for political purposes henceforth are forbidden, except with ithe permission of the military governor or the political officers in Bagdad. A military court has been established to try all offenders against public order. This virtually amounts 'to a declaration of martial law.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
