Batting averages are: Hendren '74.28', Hearne, 54.1'J; Hobbs, 53.95; Russell, 49.94. Bowling: Rhodes, 11.02; Woolley, 12.08; Howell 14.22; Parkin, 15.62. Experts are highly delighted at the form of the touring team. Unfortunately Spooner Is unable to play regularly, It is believed, owing to a slight weakness of the knee. It is feared ho will bo unable to assist Lancashire again. Good judges consider English cricket fifty per cent, above 1919 fonm, and now fully equal to the pre-war standard. A special feature is the brilliancy of the, fielding, particularly amongst the players going go Australia, whose clean gathering and lightning returns render anything like short runs a source of positive danger to batsmen. Surrey defeated Lancashire by 221 runs. Fender took four wickets for 35, and live for 63. Parkin, in the second innings,- took five for 77.
The championship order is now: Kent, Yorkshire, Surrey, Middlesex, Lancashire. Playing against Sussex, in the second innings, Rhodes took eight, wickets for 39. Against Hampshire, Russell made 108.
