THEFTS IN HOTELS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. ■ Christchurch, Last Night. Midnight thieves made a haul of loose change from four or five city hotels during the past two nights. The White Hart, Federal, Dominion, and Royal Hotels were all visited, and unlocked bedroom doors in&de the work of the thieves easy, and it is reckoned they cleaned up about £l6O, in addition to a number of totaliaator tickets. WAR SCHOLARSHIP. Christchurch, Last Night. The Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee will meet at Wellington on Friday nest to select one of the four candidates for the special war scholarship offered by the Rhodes Trustees. The candidate from Canterbury College is Mr. S. P. McCallum, who has an excellent record, both in scholastic and in athletic and social circles. He fought at Armentieres and at the first battle of the Somme, where he was seriously wounded, while occupying an advanced post. He is' at present a master at the Christchurcll Boys' High School, and President of the Canterbury College Students' Association.
