THE STRATFORD TOURNAMENT. CANN RETAINS HIS TITLE. (Prom Our Own. Correspondent.) * Stratford, Laat Night. The Town Hall was filled to-night by a crowd which thoroughly appreciated the splendid exhibitions of boxing which were given under the auspices of the Stratford Sports and Pastimes Association. An attractive programme was presented, clever boxing was witnessed, and the willingness of the encounters kept the spectators enthusiastic, The chief attraction of the evening vas a fifteen round professional bout between B. F«coory (Auckland) and C. Cann (Wanganui) for the New Zealand hantain championship and a.pvufo of £IOO. jCann, who stTipped 8.3%, entered the Ting the holder of the title, and Facoory brought in all his skill and 8.4 to establish' a right to call himself champion. It was Facoory who took the offensive, and he Joad the fighting, making the pace particularly willing, but Cann stood up to it splendidly. For fouc rounds Facoory was the aggressor, but he 'found the defence solid. The flghl eventually went the whole fifteen rounds, and at the conclusion Mr. Tim Tracey, who reforeed throughout the evening, declared Cann to be the winner. The amateur bouts resulted as follow: Feather-weight —M Foley, 8.8 (Stratford) heat Gernhoefer, 9.0 (Toko). Light-weight.—'Duggan, 9.13 (Normanby) beat Geo. Cann, 9 7 (Wanganui). Welter-weight.—O'CnrroU, 10.7 (Inglevood) beat P. Casey, 10.7 (Stratford). —An p?xtrn round had to be fought before the decision was given. Middle-weight—P Canute, 11.4 (Stratford) beat Gcosse, 114 (Wanganui). Hea.vy-weight.—MeAsey, * 11.9 (Lepperton) beat A. .1. King. 12.7 (Stratford). Special light-weight bout.--Coombes, 9.3 (Opunake) beat Wright, 9 9 (Stratford).
