THE DEATH SENTENCE.
AN ELDERLY MAN'S CRIME. MURDER OP HIS DAUGHTER. By Telefraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. ■ At the Supreme Court, the charge of the murder of his littla daughter, aged seven years, against John Sharp, by beating her with a sticky at Rcr.gahere, occupied most of the day, and the jury was absent about Ave hours before they returned with a verdict of guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy. Mr. Justice Sim, in pronouncing the death sentence, said the jury had arried at the only decision it could. The recommendation to mercy would he forwarded to the Executive.
