Smith) stated that the weather having been very favorable during July extra work ordered by the Board had been completed, in addition to the carrying out of the routine work of the Park. The banks of the lakes had been cleaned of unsightly vegetation, and the work of re-planting with tree-ferns and flower, ing cherries was now well in hand. The bridge had received attention, and all defective steps in the Park, had recently been renewed. Receipts »r the month were £j> Is ;"d. A list was received from the curator regarding the cutting of 36 trees in various parts of the Park, in order to effect improvements. FISH PONDS. The secretary of the Taranaki" Acclimatisation 600,1017 wrote seeking permission for the Society to resume the vuse of the old trout-rearing ponds in the Park. The communication pointed out that previously- the fish-ponds had proved an attraction to the public. It was decided that permission be granted, the Society to be 1 informed, however, that the Board assumes no responsibility; nor could it recommend that -Mr. Smith be in any way responsible. | IMPROVING THE SPORTS GROUND. As the result of a meeting of repre- , sentatives of various sports bodies' held . recently with the view of forming a ; sports committee, a letter was received , making application for a lease of the ! sports ground. The object, it was stat- ■ ed, was to put the ground in order and • from time to time carry out further • improvements. Being at the main entrance the grounds should be in keepl ing, or even better, than the rest of • the Park, and the work could only be • done by a sports committee making a ) special effort to raise funds for the pur- . pose. The suggestion was made that ■' the Board have two representatives on the committee. I Mr, Weston said there was a proposal ■ emanating from the committee to erect - a pavilion and to (*fery out other much- > needed work. I The secretary said he was convinced that the only way to have proper direc- , tion of the sports ground was by means ! of a committee. Subsequently, on the motion of the chairman and secretary, the Hoard approved of the proposal. Messrs Weston and Stainton were delegated to represent the Board on the committee. GENERAL. It was reported that the matter of painting the historic little gun, "Dicky Barrett," and other guns had been lefi; in the hands of Mr. Smith, who Would also prepare a notice regarding the. history of the weapons, for the benefit of visitors to the Park. The question of removing the guns to the Museum had been discussed, but it was decided not to adopt this course.
