MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE FAILS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Rotorua, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court, Mr. Kenrick, S.M., dismissed the charge of manslaughter against Tuhaimaiki Matahaere in connection with the death of Te Ngaihunia in a street brawl on April 26. j COMMERCIAL TRAVELLER'S DEATH. Marton, Last Night. Some three weeks ago, a young commercial traveller, J. Haddock, representing an Auckland firm, disappeared. He Was then in good health and spirits. His body was discovered to-day on the roadaide near Crofton, and death is supposed to have been due to exposure. ACCUSED MAN DECAMPS. . Wellington, August 2.
At the Supreme Court to-day, Mr. Macassey, Crown Prosecutor, stated that Joseph Lewis Alfred, against whom the Grand Jury had brought a true bill on a charge of conspiracy to defraud, had concealed himself on a ship, andj was last heard of at Rarotonga, Mr. Justice Chapman ordered the case to be adjourned.
