A MOTOR COLLISION.
A DRIVER DRUKK. At the Eltham Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, before Messrs J. W. Stnbbs and J. Phillips, J.P.'s, Kevin John Hyden, a traveller in the employ ol the T& Mata Wine Company, of Hawke's Bay, was charged with being drunk in charge of a motor car on the Boylan Road on Thursday evening. Mr. J. L. Weir appeared for defendant. The first witness called was Reginald King, salesman for Newton King, and living at Stratford. He stated that he was returning from Hawera on Thursday night in a new motor car, the property of his employer. When coming along the Boylan Road he saw a car approaching. He dimmed the lights and pulled to the left hand side of the road. The approaching car appeared to be swaying acrosß the road, and one of the occupant* of his car remarked: "Look out, this man is 'stunned'!" He slowed down to about eight miles an hour, but when the other came abreast of his it swerved towards the centre of the road, and the right-hand front wheel struck his righthand front mudguard. He got out of his car, but Hyden remained in his seat a few seconds.' He saw that Hyden was under the influence of liquor, and one the other men accused defendant of being drunk. King then left tlio occupants of his car on the scene of the accident while he came on to Eltham and reported the matter to the police. Evidence \yis given by John N.
