CHARGE OP THEFT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston ¥., July 30. In the Police Court, John Joseph Allingham, taxi driver, was committed for trial on a charge of breaking and entering a warehouse at Longburn and stealing a motor-car tyr,e and eight cases of benzine, the property of the Kairanga Dairy Company. CHEMICAL SCHOLARSHIP. Dunedin, Last, Night. Mr. John Edmond has forwarded a cheque, for £2OOO to the Registrar of the Qtago University for the establishing of a Chemical Research Scholarship in connection with the New Zealand industries. In a letter accompanying it, Mr. Edmond states that this amount, with the Government subsidy, ought to produce an income sufficient to provide a scholarship of the annual value of £2OO. End still leave something to provide for the material necessary to the research scholar. The tenure of the scholarship is for two years, and will be known as the John Edmond Scholarsstp. MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE. Rotorua, Last Night. , At the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. Kenrick, S.M., Tuawahiki Matehaere was charged with the manslaughter of Tengae Hunia on April 20th. It was alleged that during a row among Maoris in a street, the accused pushed Hunia, who fell, striking his head on the asphalt. The hearing was adjourned.
