EXPANDING POST OFFICES.
MANY CHANGES IN TARANAKI NEW PLYMOUTH IMPROVEMENTS. Alterations are pending at the New Plymouth Post Office, but are meanwhile deferred till the removal of the Public Trust Department (in occupying part of the post office accommodation) to the new building to be erected in Queen Street. The business transacted at the New Plymouth Post Office calls for more accommodation, and when the opportunity arises as mentioned above the portion on the westerly side of the building occupied by the Customs (now vacated) and Public Trust will be devoted to the Money Order and Savings Bank business. The space now occupied by this Department will be given to the parcels branch, where more room is wanted, this being particularly noticeable when an English mail arrives. The fact that most of the principal post offices in Taranaki are receiving, attention was mentioned by 'the Chief Postmaster (Mr. C. H. Burton) to a Daily News reporter yesterday, included in the category being Inglewood, Stratford (new building), Eltham, and Hawera. Several smaller offices were being renovated, and the activity now being experienced followed after a period in which little w\>rk could be done owing to war conditions.
