PHOSPHATES FROM NAURU.
GOVERNMENT TO CONTROL SALE. NO IMPROPER PROFITS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Matters connected with Nauru phosphates were considered by the Dominion conference of the Farmers' Union. Dr. C. J. Reakea, Director-General of the Department of Agriculture, stated that he hoped to be able to make satisfactory arrangements for shipping phosphates to New Zealand, and farmers' co-operative companies would be given equal opportunities with everyone else for handling-phosphates. The machinery of distribution had not yet been but it was intended that this work should be controlled by the Government. The Department would recognise one firm as the distributing agents, but the price would practically bo controlled by ' the Government. The Government's intention was to see that no improper profits were made out of tho sale of the phosphates, and the distributing firm would only act as commission agent*. The firm would not be one interested in the sale of manures to farmers. It was decided to thank the Government and the staff of tho Department of Agriculture for having secured an adequate supply of phosphates for the New Zealand farmers,
