Mr. J. B. Condliffe, M.A., has bee& anpointed Professor of Economic* it Canterbury College (says a telegram, from Christchurch). Mr. Condliffe, who was recommended from England for the position, is an old pupil of Canterbury
Cable advice lias been received in Dunedin of the death of Lady Miller, widow of Sir Henry Miller, who wta formerly Speaker of the Legislative Coum cil. Lady Miller left New Zealand in April of last year and was expected to return this year.
The death occurred at Wellington of Mr. Joseph Marrin, aged 74 yews, who served in the Maori war andafterwaids was one of the foundation metnben of th«, Wellington Navals. He was a prominent bowler, and was formerly president of the Newtown Club,

At tie annual meeting of the Sinrtford Farmers' Co-operative Association' yesterday, the chairman said he felt it was fitting that he should refer first of all to the absence from the annual meeting, for the first time in the company's history, of one of the company's oldest and most respected suppliers, tbe late Mr. S. J. Rawles, who ever since the inception of the company, right up to the time of his death, was a well-known figure at all the company's meetings. The separation of industries and com-i merce from the Department of Agriculture and the establishment of tto'lftpartment of Industries and Commerce has been followed by the allotment of the new portfolib to the Hon. E. p, Lee. The Board of Trade, "of whlch Mr, Lee is president and Mr W Q. Mc« .Donald chairman, has been incorporated with the new department. Mr. J.
