PLACED ON A STEAMER. GOVERNMENT'S FIRM ATTITUDE. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Melbourne, July 22. A message from Adelaide states that a naval launch transferred Jerger from the Nestor to the Kyber late on Wednesday night. The Kyber is now. sailing for Perth. Mr. Hughes, commenting on the developments, Baid the British seamen had banished from British ships all German seamen without trial. The Australian Government was banishing industrial Germans after oareful inquiry. Jerger had appealed to the highest courts in the. Commonwealth and all had decided in the same way, that he must go. Mr. Gardiner raised the question of Merger in the Senate.

Mr. Pearce, replying to Mr. Gardiner, said that Jerger's disloyal acts were notified to the Department by devout Catholics, excepting in one instance. The public demand for a trial was a move to ascertain the informants' names. Another priest who gave information to the Government had already been deported, but not by the Government.

During the discussion on the Jerger ease a large crowd gathered outside Parliament House and- made a demonstration against Jerger's deportation.

In the House of Representatives, Mr. Tudor moved the adjournment to discuss the deportation, urging the Government to give Jerger a fair trial.
