ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A SCAVENGER'S DEATH, By Telejraph.—Pres3 Association. Ashburton, July 22. George Brown, a scavenger to the Hampstead Town Board, aged uO, was found killed this morning at the nightsoil dump, with severe injuries about the head. It is presumed the cart-wheel passed over him after tipping the load. The body was found tangled in the reins beside the cart. t MAORI CHILDREN FATALLY BURNED. Thames, July 22. Two Maori children, Taha Waikato, twelve months, and Kati Waikato, three years, were fatally burned in a whare at Kerepehi, Hauraki Plains. Four children were in bed in the whare with a tin of burning wood in the centre. The mother had gone off to the store for candles, leaving a girl of twelve in charge. The latter fell asleep, and the tin overturned, setting fire to the blankets. The girl rescued two of the children, but the other two received burns to which they shortly sUcCTtmbed. The whare was not materially damaged, only the blankets being destroyed.
