TO NEW PLYMOUTH.
MESSAGE PROM GENERAL BIBDWOGD.
Writing to the Mayor (Mr. Jas. Clarke) regarding his recent vißit to New Plymouth, General Sir William Birdwood says:—"l feel I must send you a line to tell you how really glad I was to be able to pay even the short visit I did to you all at New Plymouth, and to thank you so much for your reception and kind hospitality. I can assure you I thoroughly' appreciated everything I saw, and, having seen it, I am all the more pleased to have, hjtd the opportunity of making such a visit, for I shall not forget the little round we took of your garden city. I hap duly dispatched the telegram I promised to the .Mayor of Plymouth, and, should I receive a reply before leaving New Zealand; shall, of course, let you know. With all regards and good wifihes to you and New Plymouth.'" . A few days later General Birdwood wired: "Have received the following reply from the Mayor of Plymouth, Devon, to" my telegram conveying your greetings and good wishes: 'Old P'ymouth heartily reciprocates good wishes.'"
