July 20. A short meeting of the Borough Council as a Domains Board was held, after the ordinary meeting of the Council last night. The meeting confirmed the action of the Mayor and councillors in meeting Mr. P. Black, of Palmeretoii North, on his recent visit of inspection to the domains. It was reported that when Mr. Black had received plans of the two parks he would submit a comprehensive scheme of improvements to the Board. In reply to a request' from the Croquet Club, it was decided to have the fence of Victoria Park repaired. "There has always been a feeling between the north and south ends of the borough and I'do not know that it has yet died down," remarked Cr. W. J. Ne >vton at last night's meeting of the Borough Council while the bridge loan proposal was being discussed. "I believe that feeling is still in existence, only it is dormant, and if we separate the bridge from the other loan proposals ,H will stir it up again," he added. The weekly gathering of the Stratford Boys' and Girls' Improvement' Association was held in the Parish Hall last night and was attended by about 250 boys and girls, Mr. W. Mclrris presiding. A lantern lecture by the Rev. L. B. Neale, assisted by Mr. LaWn, was the chief feature, this consisting of various views of the battlefields of Prance and Flanders, and buildings and placas of historical interest within the British Empire. Mr. Neale explained each picture as it was shown. The following members contributed items: Pianoforte duet, Florence Richardson and Keitha Cramer; recitations, Jean Moore and Stewart Phillips; piano solo, Len Kerr; pianoforte duet, Hollands brothers; piano solo, Myra Brooks. The subject for discussion at the next meeting will be: "Which route I would rather go to England by, East or West, and reasons why." The re-union and smoke concert which is being; adjourned by the Stratford Returned Soldiers' Association, and will be held in the Medina Tea Rooms on Tuesday, July 27, promises to be a very successful function. A comprehensive toast list has been prepared and sub-commit-tees are actively at work completing the arrangements. Tickets at 5s each can be obtained up till Saturday from the honorary secretary, Mr. C. Gray, Regan Street. The members of the Toko Football Club are holding a dance in the Toko. Hall on Thursday, July 22. Mrs. Bianchi's orchestra from Stratford will supply the music. Tickets for gentUmen are 3s and for ladies Is 6d.
A petition asking for the,teleph»ne exchange to be kept open continuously in Stratford, was presented to the Postmaster some time ago, but was returned on account of there being an insufficient number of business subscribers' signatures. Since then the .petition h:»s again been in circulation and practically the" full number of signatures has now been obtained. Any business subscribers who are willing to sign the petition and who have not yet done so are asked ta jommunicate with either the-, town clerk, or the local representative of the Daily News, who at present has the petition in hand.
