FRENCH FLAG INSULTED.
APOLOGY FROM GERMANS. By Telegraph,—Press Assn.—Copyright. Berlin, July 10. In connection with the hauling down of tiie French flag, a leading police official called at the French Embassy and expressed regret. Subsequently a company of the Reichswchr marched past the Embassy, where the leading French officers and members of the Embassy stood on the balcony, and the flag wh re-hoisted. The Reichswehr presented arms and marched off singing "Deutschland über Alles."
The crowd .vigorously cheered the Reichswehr, who only participated in the ceremony after lidnential persuasion, but refused to don parade uniforms'. —Beutar. '
London, July 18. The ceremonial apology for the hauling down of the tricolor a>t the French Embassy was carried out in an insulting manner, aggravating the original offence. A slovenly-dressed company of the Reichswehr marched to the Embassy and saluted during the hoisting of the fta? amid hoots from a large crowd. Received July 19, 5.5 p.m. Berlin, July 18. The French Charge d'Affaires iprotested to the German Government against the Reichswehr commander permitting 'the singjitg of "Deutso'hland über Allies" after saluting the re-hoisted French flag. The protest points out that the incident evoked disagreeable demonstrations from the crowd.—Keuter Service.
