NEW PLYMOUTH PROPOSAL. i , LEGISLATION MAY BE REQUIRED. In connection with the proposal to institute a trackless tram route in New Plymouth, representatives of the Council met the Public Works authorities in Wellington on Thursday, and a Daiiy News repofter was informed by the 'Mayor, Mr. Jsis. Clarke, who returned last evening, that there is a possibility that an empowering Bill may be necessary before the Council can run the system. The Department, however, have not gone into the question fully as yet. The heartiest approval of the system was expressed to Mr. Clarke by w two engineers with Home experience, who recently arrived in the Dominion. In Leeds, it is stated, the trackless cars are run on cobbled roads, while they are also in operation in Dundee and Glasgow. They are described as art asset in the development of any city or town.
