An old man named Arthur Hoad, wUo yesterday was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on a charge of having insufficient visible means of support, died this morning in Paparoa prison. DROWNING AND SUICIDE. Gisborne, July 17. A half-caste, named George Milton,' aged 39 years, was drowned in the Wai* apu river, at Tiki Tiki, while attempting to cross the flooded stream. Tho police have received a repott ,«th»t a man in the back country beyond To Karaka committed suicide by cutting his throat. The name has not been received.
