CONCESSIONS TO JOCKEYS.
MORE LIBERAL PAYMENTS. By felegrnph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 16. Arising out of the deputation of jockeys which recently waited upon Sir 1 Geo. Clifford, the Racing Conference today agreed to a new scale for jockeys' fees and retainers. On the recommendation of the President the conference affirmed that in the absence of any special agreement to the contrary the fees payable to jockeys in relation to the net amount payable to the owner shall be for flat races to a winning mount in no case less than £2, if the net amount exceeds £SO, £5 per.centum thereon." To a jockey of a second or third horse, if the net amount exceeds £IOO, £2 10s per centum thereon. To a jockey other than as above in no case less than £l. If the net amount is £36 and does not exceed £IOO, £2 2k. If the net amount exceeds £IOO, tout does not exceed £l5O, £3. If it exceeds £l5O, £4. For hurdle races and steeplechases to a winning mount in no case less than £4 if the net amount exceeds £4O, £lO per centuh thereon. 'To a jockey of a selond or third horse, if the net amount exxceeds £IOO, £lO per cent, thereon; to a jockey other than as above in no case less than £2; if the net amount is £3O and does not exceed £IOO, £4; if the net amount exceeds £IOO but not £l5O, £5; if it exceeds £l5O, £6. The President commented that the conference would no doubt appreciate the fact that this jockeys were entitled to participate in the general increase in wages throughout the Dominion. Personally he had found the jockeys to be absolutely fair-minded and reasonable, and they realised that it would be unwise in their own interests to tax the owners too heavily.
APPEAL WITHDRAWN. Wellington, July 17. E. C % Rae, J. B. CShea and L. H. Hewitt have written to the president of the Racing Conference that no good result can come of their prosecuting their appeal, on the ground that their suspension expires 10 days after the date set down for the hearing of the appeal and, if the appeal were successful, there would he no further meetings this season at which they cotdd ride. If the appeal were unsuccessful they would be heavy financial losers in taking then - advocate themselves to Wellington. Therefore, they beg to withdraw the appeal and respectfully submit that the deposit should be refunded.
