TE ROTI-OPUNAKE LINE.
BETTER PROGRESS WANTED. POLICY NOT REVEALED. (By Wire.T-Parliamentary Reporter.) , Wellington, Laßt Night. Representatives ol the Egmont, Eltham, and Waimate Counties, and of Hawera and Opunake, asked the Minister of Public Works (Mr. Coates) to-day to push ahead with the Te Roti-Gpuiialte railway. Mr. Powdrell (Patea) introduced the deputation, and Mr. Bawken was also present. The Minister said there were lines all over the country which had been proraised, and his main task was to pick out those .which were most urgently needed and which would give the quickest return. He could not give any definite answer to the requests. The intentions of the Government' would lie revealed in the Public Works Statement later in the session. Nothing would give him greater pleasure than to be able to meet their wishes, and the wishes of people similarly placed, but his great difficulty was to secure the necessary material and machinery. He hoped in twelve months' time to be in a much better position io tackle works with a chance of getting them done.
