PHOSPHATES FOR TARANAKI.
DIRECT SHIPMENT URGED.. THROUGH NEW PLYMOUTH'S l"ORT. (By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last MTgltt Mr. R. Masters (Stratford) has asked the Prime Minister whether he will, when making arrangements for shipments of phosphate rock from. Nauru or other Islands, take into consideration the advisability of having shipments' made direct to New Plymouth in order to o'o< viate the handling of the double wharfage and coastal freight charges attached to transhipment from Onehunga or Auckland? Steamers with a tonnage of up to 10,000 tons have for Bome time been trading to New Plymouth; «&d direct shipments will have the effect of so reducing the prices of manure! that will make it possible for farmers to U4a them freely, a position that at the present time is not possible on account Of the high prices charged. Plants- for the crushing of phosphate rock are in courl# of erection in Taranaki.
