BRITAIN AND JAPAN.
TREATY EXTENSION REPORTED. NO PERMANENT ARRANGEMENT. Received July 14, 11.35 p.m. >oftaon, July 13. It is understood. Britain aid -Japan have agreed on one year's unofficial extension of the Treaty, but there will be no formal renewal until 1921. In the meantime the Treaty has been referred to the League of Nations, which has been invited to express an opinion whether it conflicts with an" provisions of the League covenant. The whole position will be reviewed in the light of the League's presentation, and overseas opinion.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
