COST OF PIG IRON.
STILL INCREASING. The increase 111 the cost of raw materials and labor in England and Scotland has risen to a considerable extent and the cost of pig iron has advanced accordingly. The result of this increase is reflected on the New Zealand market. The following telegram to. the Phoenix Foundry, in Auckland, explains the matter:— - "Quote you number three grado Olengarnock pig iron £l9 6a Btaia ports; shipments end o! July," This shows the possibilities before manufacture of pig iron in New Zealand. There never was a time when the prospects of establishing such an industry in the Dominion were so rosy, for there ia no chance whatever of prices receding to thing near pre-wa» priceg.*
