THE DAVIS CUP.
CHANCES OF AUSTRALIA; . ' THE VENUE OPPOSED. * By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright, Received July 12, B.IS j£m. , Sydney, July 12. The newspaper Sun, in a leauct"referring to Tilden's defeat of Patterson, says: "Australasian tennis players must be wondering how Australasia's next Davis Cup team is going to shape against the Americans. Have Australian or British players anything to give away to Americans? The change of venue to New Zealand is not of much consequence, but on the present showing tliey will have nothing to gibe, and wili surrender a valuable advantage by playing in New Zealand, where they will be as much on foreign soil and in a foreign atmosphere as the Americans."
The paper adds that playing in New Zealand, therefore, with the chances as they are, may well result in the defeat of the Australians. It suggests that the New Zealand Association, in generously waiving their rights, might keep the Cup within the Empire.—Aus.N.Z. Oable Assn.
