At last night's meeting of the Stratford Borough Council, the resignation of Mr. S. IS. Neil son, the assistant clerk, was received. M. Neilson has been appointed assistant clerk to the Lower Hutt Borough Council.

On the occasion of their approaching marriage, the Misses D. and G. Callaghan were presented on Monday by the proprietor and staff of the Egmont Boot and Shoe Co. with cheques in appreciation of their long service with the firm,' The cheques were accompanied by a letter expressing good wishes of the firm and staff for their future happiness and prosperity. On Thursday evening, the Avoca Hockey Club entertained both young ladies, Mr. E. Whittle presenting Miss D. Callaghan with a silver cake stand, and Miss G. Callaghan with a silver stand and a milk and cream jug. The following teachers have been selected by the New Zealand Educational Institute to act as representatives of the certificated teachers on the appeal boards in bonnection with the grading of teachers:—Auckland: Colin R.
