FRANCE AND AUSTRALIA.
BAR TO TRADE RECIPROCITY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, July 7. Oeneral Pau and the other members of the French Mission whioh visited Australia and New Zealand, entertained Mr. Theodore, Premier of Queensland, fn Tuesday in Paris. They expressed deep regret at the fecent tariff changes, particularly the provision whereby customs duty is chargeable at the pre-war rate of exchange. Mr. Theodore has received constant protests on the subject from manufacturers, all of whom declared that the regulation nullified the hope that the Pau Mission would result in an increase in trade between France and Aus-tralia.—Aus.-N.Z. Mr. Greene, Minister of Customs, informed a Chamber of Commerce deputation, which sought an adjustment (if the rate of exchange in assessing duty on French, Belgian, and Italian goods, that the policy of the Commonwealth was to give Britain preference over the rest of the" world.—Aus.-N.Z.
