POLAND'S PERIL.
CAPITULATION DENIED. A CRITICAL SITUATION. By Telegraph.—Press Asn.—Copyright, Received July 9, 5.5 p.m. London, July 8. The Polish Minister in London, in an interview, stated that the Polish position was certainly critical, but the obviously inspired rumor that Poland had capitulated waf entirely untrue. "The Bolsheviks outnumber the Poles by four to one, so it is not surprising we are compelled to retreat, but it is not r c rout," he added. "The lines of communication are defective, and therefore the Bolshevik pursuit is unlikely to be rapid. Poland has peace terms prepared, and will negotiate at the first appropriate opportunity." The Morning Post's Warsaw correspondent reports that the "Reds" are threatening Minsk, using semi-savage Siberians and Chinese mercenaries, also a considerable number of tanks and armored cars. The northern front must be watched for decisive developments here. The "Reds" are trying to drive the Poles into the Pinsk marshes. Polish recruits are flocking to the army.— Aus.-N.Z. A Warsaw offioial statement says:— "Between the Dvina and the Upper Beresina the Poles retired in face of superior numbers of the enemy, who the Beresina in foice south* east of Borinor. "A Polish counter-attack is developing favorably."—Reuter Service. NEW BOLSHEVIK OFFENSIVE. EARLY SUCCESS REPORTED. Received July 9, 8 p.m. " Copemiagen, July 7. Warsaw advices stacea that a long prepared Bolshevik offensive opened on Tuesday, the enemy attacking by the Dvina. Their cavalry have already cut off the railway line from Kieff to KoVcl. The Polish Defence Council summoned the people to rally to the flag, and thousands of volunteers are now flocking to the colors.—Aus.-JJ.Z. Cable Assn.
