DOMINION NEWS.

TIMBER YARD WORKERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., July 8. Before the Conciliation Council yesterday the claims of the Wellington Timber Yards and Sawmill Union of Workers were heard. It was stated that any award should be made to be operative throughout the Wellington industrial district. The agreement reached at Wellington, operating over a radius of 25 miles from that city, was adopted, except for bush sawmills. The latter goes to the Arbitration Court for decision. The scope of the agreement is until December, 1922, but the date from which it is to operate was left to the Arbitration Court. HINDU LABOR RESENTED. Carterton, July 8. Seven Hindu scrub-citters from a back-blocks station arrived at Carterton last night and took up their abode in a small unoccupied cottage. Some sixty or seventy men, Europeans, made a demonstration in front of the place, threatening to eject the Hindus forcibly unless they went peaceably. The police arrived and warned the demonstrators of the consequences of any overt act against the Hindus, but the crowd was determined not to allow them to remain. Finally the Hindus decided (to leave the town. They were escorted to the railway station and boarded the train for Masterton. It is reported they camped in the Masterton Park all night.
