Captain N. F. Anderson, in charge, reports a fair passage with a prenofld«*> ance of light winds and calms. on# e*citing incident occurred about fofty days out, when the schooner, while under full canvas, was struck by a squall and jtut about stripped of her sails. The vessel was then in the Southern Heniliphcre, at the time being off Palmereton lajjand. En route the C. S. Holmes "*poke" to the barquentine Ysabel (of AucHUwd), which is also bound from 'Frisco to Ifew Plymouth, and had left a week; earlier than the schooner's date of departure, which was May 1. The C. S. Holmes wte off the Kermadecl when She passed flfe Isabel, so the latter may be expected at New Plymouth soon. . . The Stars and Stripes fly fronj tbe spanker mast, the vessel being oWned by Captain John- Buckland, of Seattle, Washington. He visited New, .Zealand sometime ago but has now retired from active sea life, and is at present on .•& vacation in Europe. Captain Anderson, who has made several trips to New Zealand previously, has been master on the C. S. Holmes for three years. He is associated with Chief Officer N. K. Halo and Second, P. Forslund. . . The principal cargo is a consignment 0f'20,000 cases of benzine for a New Mymonth firm, and aftej- discharging, which will occupy about ten days* the Wshooher gioes to Papeete. In dimensions the ship is 185 ft long. With a 37ft beam, Set tonniife of sSfl. and is drawing 15ft.6in of Water, Two motor.launches swung,one on each fide of the vessel, are used 'as auxiliary power when windg fail, ana the launches were brought into requisition ; e» the present voyage, notably after jMuliltajr the Three Kings. For a distance of 130 miles the schooner was towed 'bj the launches. The vessel has a" crew "if eight, all told, and brought, one passenger.
