DOWN ARMS.
BRITISH SOLDIERS' ACTION. SYMPATHY WITH D3ELAND : By Telegraph.—Press Assn.>-Copyrlght. July 4, 6.5 p.m. Simla, July 2. The first battalion of the Connauglit Rangers,, stationed at Jullundur, became excited over accounts of Irish events, and respectfully downed their arms, surrendered their ammunition, and declared their sympathy with their friends in Ireland. The fourth battalion remained loyal to the commander, and the former were placed in a separate camp with a British regiment in charge of them. When this new 3 reached a detachment at Solan, in the Simla hills, an attempt was made to seize the arms and cartridges, but the guards promptly fired, killing two and wounding one. Everything is now quiet.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
